Youth-Centred Participatory Action (YoPA)

The Youth-centred Participatory Action project (YoPA) is a European Union-funded initiative being implemented by VARCE and Redeemer’s University, Ede with the aim to address the complex challenges of physical inactivity and health inequalities among young people. Through a unique, participatory approach that values inclusivity, diversity, and youth agency, YoPA empowers young individuals to take ownership of their health and well-being.

Spanning from 2023 to 2027, this youth-led participatory action research initiative not only promotes healthier lifestyles but also cultivates essential life skills, such as leadership, critical thinking, and collaborative problem-solving. By placing young people at the heart of the process, YoPA enables them to become active change makers within their schools and communities.

This initiative adopted a co-creation approach to identify the key local needs and systemic challenges contributing to low levels of physical activity. In response, the team has begun developing interventions that are tailored to the specific needs and contexts of the local communities. Consequently. this will encourage increase in participation in physical activity, improve overall health outcomes, and build stronger, more connected communities.

At YoPA, we believe in empowering young people to take charge of their health and well-being.
